COONTEC Begins Joint Development of Next-Generation Maritime Cybersecurity Platform with Korean Register and Domestic Ship Management Company

• Kickoff meeting held for the joint development of the next-generation Ship Cyber Resilience Integrated Platform, ‘KR-CyberOne’
• COONTEC, Korean Register, and a leading ship management company form a ‘dream team’ to maximize synergy
• Aiming to proactively address tightening international security regulations and lead global maritime technology standards

COONTEC announced that it has officially begun the joint development of the next-generation ‘Ship Cyber Resilience Integrated Platform (KR-CyberOne)’ with Korean Register and a leading domestic ship management company.

This joint development initiative is considered an important milestone in proactively responding to the increasingly stringent ship cyber resilience requirements UR E26/E27 issued by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), while also seeking to lead global maritime cybersecurity technology standards. The three organizations stated that ensuring safety in the rapidly digitizing shipping industry is their top priority.

On September 2, COONTEC successfully held the kickoff meeting for the ‘Joint R&D of the Ship Cyber Resilience Integrated Platform’ at a partner company’s headquarters with relevant stakeholders in attendance. As the first meeting following the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed among the three parties on August 1, the session established a concrete development roadmap and marked the official start of the project.

During the meeting, the three parties discussed in depth the field-oriented requirements of shipping companies, the platform’s ultimate users. This laid the groundwork for COONTEC to integrate user requirements optimized for real-world vessel operating environments from the early stages of development.

In this project, each organization will create synergy based on its respective expertise as follows.

• COONTEC will take a core role in platform planning, development, and maintenance based on its accumulated cybersecurity expertise.
• Korean Register (KR), as an internationally recognized classification society, will provide advisory support for regulatory interpretation and technical verification based on its accumulated technical expertise.
• The leading domestic ship management company will provide user requirements and a test environment for pilot operation based on its practical vessel operation experience.

Starting with this kickoff meeting, the three organizations plan to establish a close cooperation framework and accelerate joint R&D toward the successful commercialization of the platform through regular technical workshops.
