COONTEC announced on the 13th that it conducted live demonstrations of its maritime cyber resilience platform, TeraGRID Maritime (TGM), at its Pangyo testbed on the 5th and 12th.

The demonstrations were attended by representatives from major domestic shipping companies, ship management specialists, shipbuilding and marine equipment companies, and Korean Register. COONTEC configured two virtual vessels and built network and security equipment environments equivalent to those found on actual ships. In a realistic setup integrating firewalls and switch ports, real cyberattacks were injected to demonstrate the detection and blocking processes on site.

After confirming normal vessel operation, seven cyberattack scenarios were applied sequentially. TGM is a maritime cybersecurity solution that supports both NDR and EDR. Through real-time correlation analysis, it identifies both known and unknown threats and applies automated isolation and notification policies according to threat level.

In the final stage of the demonstration, attack detection and blocking records were automatically aggregated according to the implementation status of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) UR E26 requirements. KR-CRP (KR Cyber Resilience Platform), jointly developed by COONTEC and Korean Register, handled the generation of reports for submission to classification societies.

KR-CRP manages newbuilding design data in a database. It automatically generates asset inventories, network diagrams, and cybersecurity design documents, and changes made in one location are automatically reflected across related documents. In a shipyard pilot operation, the time required to prepare asset lists and configuration diagrams was reduced from three months to two weeks. Validation of actual design data also identified more than ten issues that had been overlooked manually.

IACS UR E26 applies to ships contracted for construction on or after July 1, 2024. Beginning in the middle of this year, the first annual inspections of ships subject to these requirements are expected to begin in earnest. These inspections focus not on design drawings, but on records demonstrating that the approved status has been maintained. Security patch histories, asset change records, and event logs cannot be recreated later if they are not accumulated at the time of operation.

COONTEC plans to continue demonstration workshops throughout August for shipping companies, ship managers, and shipbuilding-related companies. The workshops will be operated in a way that incorporates participating organizations’ requirements into the products.
